Challenge
Following the US government's complete defunding of UNRWA, many of the agency's programs are at risk. UNRWA has already been forced to reduce services for refugees, including the mental health and cash-for-work programs. Food assistance is the next program at risk.
In the Gaza Strip, one million Palestinian refugees are relying on UNRWA to meet their basic needs. Their right to food, a human right, is non-negotiable but is being neglected by all those who turn a blind eye to Gaza. Currently, more than 1.6 million people in Gaza are considered food insecure.
Solution
Together, we provided critical food assistance to Palestine refugee families -- every $150 was enough to provide a quarterly food basket to a Palestine refugee family in the Gaza Strip.
Distribution
A total of $20,294 was raised to fund UNRWA food assistance programs for Palestinian refugee families in Gaza during Ramadan. The refugees come quarterly to receive their aid from the UNRWA headquarters in the Gaza Strip. This is an ongoing program that constantly feeds the poorest families in need of aid.
Long-Term Impact
By joining this nationwide movement, we are not only putting food on the table for Palestinian refugee families -- we are also sending the message that Americans care. The voice of the global community is important in shaping the future of our world. Gathering support by people all over the globe, American individuals and companies included, is critical for ensuring a trajectory that takes into account the rights and needs of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and worldwide. Each food package shared today means a greater chance of creating a future of abundance for all, tomorrow.
